WGSS was a field born from struggle. Today, tomorrow, and in the days to come, we strive to honor and build upon that legacy.

We continue our department’s mission to generate knowledge about the complex interplay of power and difference, especially as inflected by categories of gender, sexuality, race, class, age, ability, and nationality. We interrogate the conditions that render specific populations vulnerable to violence, and we study and cultivate strategies of resistance.

Students, we welcome and hold space for and with you. We stand together in our shared commitments to analyze relationships of power and challenge forms of oppression.

Just as our department has done for the past fifty years, in the weeks and months ahead we will come together in our classrooms and communities to build knowledge that liberates. Join us.
